Preparatory work before plaster

Before you start applying plaster, you should carefully prepare the base. The surface needs to be cleaned, aligned and, if necessary, primed. A layer of plaster should be perfect and not bring troubles in the future. Our article will help yours in this. It contains information about the preliminary stage of finishing work.

Here are a few general tips that are suitable for any type of surfaces that must be plastered:

The surface should be cleaned of dust and dirt using abrasive materials (abrasive paper, the use of sandblasting).

The old exfolved alkyd, water -dispersive or oil paint and wallpaper must be removed using a spatula. When engaged in wall decoration, do not forget that for the renovated room you will need floor air conditioners.

If the surface is strongly contaminated, then it is best to apply an alkaline detergent for purification. After that, the surface should certainly be washed with cold water.

The cleaning should finish the wall processing with sandpaper, after which it is necessary to gently wipe the wall with a rag.

Check if the wall has the necessary strength for applying the plaster. If some elements are staggering, this can cause the development of ugly cracks on the surface.

Make sure that the surface is stable. Slightly scrape the base with something sharp-if the material does not crumble, then plaster can be applied to the surface.

The surface of the wall should be absolutely smooth. If there are any defects and irregularities that interfere with wiping fine-grained plaster, it is necessary to apply a layer of primer with good quality, and then the finish putty.
